Femili PNG remains committed with its communication aim to address the issue of family and sexual violence in Morobe and across PNG.
The Femili PNG Lae Outreach team recently met with the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Executive Producer for Morobe, Ms. Carol Umbo, and recorded first awareness message under community radio segment.
The team was led by FPNG Training and Outreach Coordinator, Mawe Farike, and two outreach officers, Bernard Nulai and Georgina Ira.
The awareness message started off with introducing Femili PNG and the types of services it provides to assist survivors of Family and Sexual Violence (FSV). Training and Outreach Coordinator, Mawe Farike spoke about FPNG’s main target populations which included survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV), sexual violence, child abuse, and sorcery accusation-related violence (SARV). He further elaborated that Femili PNG has assisted over 7,000 survivors in the last 10 years, with IPV and child abuse being the most common types of cases that FPNG deals with.
Carol thanked the team and hoped that the message will help listeners to seek the help they need.
This radio program plans to go on air once week and aims to cover different topics under family and sexual violence, child abuse, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, SARV, related government laws, referral pathways, types of violence and abuses and FPNG case management services. The team are planning to discuss more on the types of child abuses, child safety rules and provide information on services that are available for children to seek help when they experience violence.
Meanwhile, NBC Morobe also had a separate live broadcast with FPNG Communications and PR Manager, Renat Muruket and Case Work Manager, Veronica Lahis on Wedne sday, 24th July, to promote FPNG’s work and tenth year anniversary celebrations.
Thank you NBC Morobe for allowing Femili PNG to reach out to wider audience. The team is anticipating that this information will help listeners to contact Femili PNG and to seek help.
