To celebrate our tenth anniversary, our Patron, His Excellency John Ma’o Kali, who is the Papua New Guinean High Commissioner to Australia, visited Port Moresby to show his support to the organisation he proudly champions, Femili PNG.
Even before his visit Mr Kali showed his strong support for Femili PNG by writing to numerous business houses to request their support for the Femili PNG tenth anniversary gala dinner.
The two High Commissioners, Australia’s High Commissioner to PNG (His Excellency John Feakes) and PNG’s High Commissioner to Australia (His Excellency John Ma’o Kali) met at the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby. The two High Commissioners reaffirmed their commitment to combatting gender-based violence in both countries, and reflected on the importance of sustained support for civil society initiatives.
Femili PNG operates the Port Moresby Case Management Centre and Safe House on behalf of the Bel isi public- private partnership. Both public and private sector companies can subscribe to Bel isi to show their support for ending gender-based violence and to support their employees. So far about 20 companies have subscribed to Bel isi, but they are mainly from the private sector. Femili PNG and Santos, the Bel isi manager, took advantage of Mr Kali’s visit to PNG, and his reputation as a public-sector leader for gender equity, to run an awareness section for public sector agencies about Bel isi. The meeting was an outstanding success, with the large venue packed to capacity.
Our Patron and High Commissioner also visited our Bel isi Case Management Centre to meet with staff, and spoke at the gala dinner. Thank you Mr Kali for all your support! We couldn’t do it without you.
