On 14 March 2025, Femili PNG’s Lae Outreach Officers delivered an informative session to employees of JV Hire Company Ltd at the company’s conference room in Lae.
As a Business Unit under the Steamships Division, JV Hire Company Ltd is committed to promoting a healthy workplace environment for their employees. As part of this commitment, the company invited Femili PNG to educate staff on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and the proactive measures that can be taken to prevent violence from happening at work and at home.
The Femili PNG Community and Outreach Officers, Bernard Nulai and Alice Tibalum, spoke about family and sexual violence (FSV), its impact on individuals and how it may affect staff performance and productivity. Both officers also stressed the importances of referral pathways, relevant laws, child protection and parenting. Bernard challenged employees who are parents to take good care of their children.
“From our data and reports, most child abuse cases are happening inside homes. Parents, please spend time with your children and listen to them,” Bernard emphasized.
In addition to this session, the Outreach team conducted a similar awareness session for employees of South Pacific International Container Terminal Ltd (SPICT) on 19 February 2025. This included one-on-one discussions with staff to address specific concerns and questions.
Femili PNG remains dedicated to raising awareness and educating communities about FSV, aiming to prevent violence before it happens. Thank you to the JV Ports Services Workshop team and SPICT for inviting Femili PNG. We hope that the information shared will go a long way in making a difference.
