Community members from Tubusereia Village in Central Province received practical guidance on accessing support services during a Family and Sexual Violence (FSV) awareness session delivered on 4 February by the Bel isi Case Management Centre team.
The session focused on clear referral pathways, informing residents who to approach and where to go when seeking assistance. Participants were guided on how survivors can be referred to key government service providers, including police, health facilities, courts, welfare offices, Family Support Centres, and safe houses in Port Moresby. The Bel isi team emphasised that coordinated referrals are essential to ensure survivors receive timely protection, medical care, legal support, and safe accommodation.
The awareness also highlighted Bel isi’s case management services, explaining how survivors can access support through case officers and referral partner agencies. This coordinated approach helps survivors navigate each stage of recovery and justice processes.
Several attendees expressed appreciation, noting they had not previously known such structured support systems existed. Village Magistrate Sibona Kamuta shared:
“I’m very thankful for this awareness session because this is the type of thing that people in our communities actually need to know. Most of us don’t know about these services, so this is immensely helpful. We are also pleased that these services are free for the general public through your organisation, as it means more people can receive help and support.”
Community members thanked Bel isi PNG and its partner service providers for making vital information accessible. Their feedback underscores the importance of community-based awareness in improving access to protection and support for survivors of family and sexual violence.
